Afternoon tea gets an exciting eco-makeover at Petersham Nurseries this January as the Covent Garden centre partners with climate action charity Cool Earth to introduce a unique and environmentally friendly afternoon tea to its menu. The eco-themed tea aims to raise money for Cool Earth’s vital work in the prevention and termination of deforestation and climate change, marking the beginning of a new 2020 series in which the nursery will be partnering with a variety of charities in the creation of its seasonal afternoon teas.
Inspired by Cool Earth’s work in the Peruvian rainforest, as well as Petersham Nurseries’ ongoing environmentally friendly ethos, the tea will feature an array of locally and ethically sourced ingredients, rainforest-influenced centre pieces and details, and a fusion of Peruvian and Petersham Nurseries-style sweets.
Tea-goers can expect a delicious vegetarian menu combining savoury and sweet flavours, accompanied by a seasonal bellini or non-alcoholic cocktail. Delight in the likes of cauliflower pani puri and squash and chilli quiche to start, followed by delights such as tonka bean custard slice and a quintessential Victoria sponge elegentally decorated with garden flowers. As if that wasn’t enough to fill up on, there will also be a selection of miniature rhubarb and custard tartlets for afters to enjoy.
Managing director of Petersham Nurseries, Lara Boglione, said: ‘Petersham Nurseries is fundamentally connected to nature – it is the essence of our business – and we are thrilled to be raising funds for Cool Earth, a charity that is truly passionate about the earth’s future. Never has it been more important to protect the planet and we have created a spectacular afternoon tea that combines our ethos with Cool Earth’s mission.’
