Mulled wine cupped between mittened hands, the scent of chestnuts and gingerbread wafting through the air, pretty lights, and endless pop-ups and Christmas markets to enjoy: London is a great place to be during the festive season. Amongst it all, magnificent Christmas trees are displayed. From the traditional to the contemporary, there’s many exciting trees popping across the city, with plenty more to come. Here’s our pick of the prettiest so far.

Shangri-La The Shard
Shangri-La have gone space-age this festive season, with a futuristic tree and decorations designed by McQueens Flowers. Don’t miss their festive afternoon tea, too. shangri-la.com
Aqua Shard
And, also at The Shard, Aqua Shard has decked the halls in support of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity’s (GOSH Charity) Christmas Appeal. A towering seven metres tall, the tree was designed by McQueens Flowers and incorporates adornments that pay homage to the children’s hospital. aquashard.co.uk
St Pancras International
In partnership with The Prince’s Trust, St Pancras International’s 2022 33 ft tall Christmas tree draws inspiration from the London skyline and a Ronald Searle’s illustrative style for the 1955 production of On the Twelfth Day…, which showcases the chaos which ensued after receiving all 364 gifts from ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ in Edwardian Britain. Mondrian Shoreditch
In collaboration with renowned East-London artist Martin Richman, the Mondrian’s abstract Christmas tree, displayed in the hotel lobby, is made up of acrylic blades on nylon threads. The tree also projects an array of colours, which Richman said ‘turn in very slight air currents and reflect, or refract, a light source in two changing and opposing colours, depending on angle of film and viewer’. sbe.com
Granary Square
Perhaps ‘tree’ is generous, but Kings Cross’ winter installation is back with 2022’s installation, ‘elsewhere: a place to think about the world’ by Berlin-based, experimental art and architecture practice, raumlabor. The 33-foot tall structure may not evoke the festive season as we know it, but it is supposed to provide an outdoor space to sit and spend time in company, contemplating the beauty and complexity of the world, and considering how we can work together to ignite change – which really does evoke the togetherness of Christmas in our opinion. kingscross.co.uk

Native Bankside
Native Places’ carbon neutral ‘Honesty’ tree – created in partnership with floral artist, Jake Kuit – is breathing new life into discarded items, drawing attention to the 12,500 tonnes of Christmas decorations and 68,488 miles of Christmas lights that go to landfill every year. All of the decorations on Native’s 12 ft tall tree are being reused from previous events throughout the year, featuring 250 velvet bows, Spanish moss, and wool. NoMad London
Rooted in the regal origins of British Christmas traditions dating back to 1800, the NoMad London’s Christmas tree has been designed by the London Flower School and inspired by Constance Spry (the florist responsible for the iconic flower garlands at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953) in celebration of the new King and the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II. thenomadhotel.com
Television Centre
This year, the Television Centre’s iconic Christmas tree is topped with a sculpture designed by Rosh Mahtani, founder of jewellery brand Alighieri, in support of the charity Refuge. ‘The Alighieri Hand of Protection’ symbolises strength and hope for all and, as well as atop the tree, can be seen on Alighieri’s Curator Necklace, with 15 percent of sales revenue donated to Refuge across the Christmas period. £250, alighieri.com

The Carlton Tower Jumeirah
Designed by McQueens, The Carlton Tower Jumeirah is celebrating the festive season with eight trees in the lobby. There’s also an advent calendar designed by young and emerging designers at London College of Fashion, with a mini couture dress behind every door, ready to be hung on the tree. jumeirah.com
The London EDITION
This 18-foot Christmas tree – which layers gold and jewel-coloured upcycled fabrics and textiles, topped with an angelic figure – was designed by artist Daniel Lismore in collaboration with producer Lyndon Ogbourne of LSD Studio. editionhotels.com
The Londoner
Designed by Londoner Daniel Fletcher and situated in The Londoner’s Ballroom, the ‘A White Christmas’ Tree pulls influences from across Fletcher’s aesthetic, textiles and commitment to sustainability. Grand yet understated with Fletcher’s signature minimalism, the branches are handmade and pleated, taking five days and a team of five five to create, with another eight hours of installation at the hotel. thelondoner.com
